Schuette Loses Biggest Endorsement Over Politicization of MSU Investigation

LANSING — The Michigan Democratic Party issued the following statement today, on behalf of Party Chair Brandon Dillon, regarding John Engler’s decision to pull his endorsement of Bill Schuette’s campaign for governor after Schuette’s politicization of the investigation into Michigan State University’s handling of the Nassar case:

“By withdrawing his political endorsement of Bill Schuette, John Engler did more for our state today than he ever did as governor. Schuette’s tangled web of conflict and insatiable appetite for the political spotlight have been on full display throughout his attempt to use the MSU-Nassar investigation to once again further his political ambitions. Following his complete politicization of this investigation — from his self-promoting, Saturday morning press conference to executing campus search warrants alongside the media and camera crews — one thing is overwhelmingly clear, even to John Engler: Bill Schuette isn’t fit to serve.

“From the beginning, the focus of this investigation should have been the victims, not politics, and in the end, it’s justice that must be served, not Bill Schuette’s political agenda. That’s why we need a truly independent investigation into what happened at MSU — the victims deserve it and the public demands it.”
