Rep. Tim Kelly Not Fit to Serve as State House Education Committee Chair
GOP State Rep Has U.S. Dept. of Ed. Nomination Pulled Over Offensive Comments

LANSING — The Michigan Democratic Party issued the following statement today, on behalf of Party Chair Brandon Dillon, regarding Republican State Rep. Tim Kelly (R-Saginaw) having his nomination to serve as an undersecretary in the U.S. Department of Education rescinded after offensive comments by Kelly, in which he disparages Muslims, working parents, and efforts to recruit women into the sciences, were found on his personal blog:

“Tim Kelly should not be allowed anywhere near an internet connection let alone remain in a leadership position in the Michigan House of Representatives. His remarks about working parents, women, and Muslims are so reprehensible not even Betsy DeVos could let it slide once they became public. After this unmasking of Kelly’s true character and beliefs, he cannot be allowed to continue as chair of the House Education Reform Committee and should immediately be replaced. If Tim Kelly isn’t fit to serve Donald Trump and DeVos, there’s no way he’s fit to serve Michigan’s children.”
